Creating your own candy corn on the cob is not only fun and simple, but it is a tasty activity too. And one that your kids will enjoy making with you. So grab your kiddos, a few supplies and get creating.
Because this project takes a little bit of time, but isn't very difficult, it is the perfect time to talk about the Pilgrims and their first feast with your kids. We spent a lot of time talking about all the things our family is grateful for while making these candy corn on the cob crafts.
While we don't know all of the foods the Pilgrims ate at their first Thanksgiving feast, we are fairly sure that corn was among the foods in their first harvest. So create these fun candy corn on the cob crafts in celebration of the Pilgrims' first feast.
Supplies:
- 4 paper lunch sacks
- 1 styrofoam cone
- Reese's Pieces
- Low-temp hot glue gun with glue sticks
Directions:
This craft is really so simple to make. You will simply glue Reese's Pieces onto your Styrofoam cone using your hot glue gun. But there is a little method involved if you want it to look nice.
1. Start gluing
Start at the top and alternate colors around the cone. After the first row is in place, you can add the candy to the top of your cone. Then begin at the same point at the back and glue a second row of candy, again alternating colors. Then continue until the cone is covered in Reese's Pieces.
It is important to use a low-temp hot glue gun for this. A high-temp hot glue gun will melt the Styrofoam, plus you are more likely to get a glue burn with the high-temp hot glue gun.
2. Fold the leaves
Next, take your paper lunch sacks and fold them in half lengthwise. Freehand a leaf shape and cut it out. These do not have to be exact.
3. Crumple the husks
After your husks are cut out, crumple them up to add a little dimension and texture to the husks.
4. Wrap the candy cob
Carefully place the husks around the candy-covered cone and attach them using a little hot glue. Crinkle and crumple the edges, and make it look as natural as possible.
4. Complete and enjoy
These candy corn on the cob crafts are so fun and creative. My kids loved helping me make these and they loved snacking on the leftover candy too. We had a great time talking about things we are grateful for and the Pilgrims' first feast.
This is a really fun craft to create for the Thanksgiving season with (or without) your kids.
