Kids told to pull down pants at school
Yes, that's about as crazy and ridiculous as it sounds. We all know that schools are places of learning and fun, but for some Texas kids, their school resembled a scene out of a prison movie when they were forced to strip down to their underwear for a weird inspection.
The reason? Teachers have been finding feces on the gym floor. Apparently it was enough of a problem that they decided they'd had enough, and they took the matter into their own hands. Girls were led to one room, and boys were shuffled off to another. Facing away from their interrogators, they were told to lower their drawers so teachers could inspect their underwear-clad backsides.
This is completely inappropriate. Requiring kids to drop their pants so teachers can look for skidmarks — in a room full of other kids — is wrong, wrong, wrong. Even if they thought this was a reasonable thing to do, parental permission must be granted in order for this to be done. And it wasn't.
What nutbag thought this would be a good idea? Did they think that the kids would be OK with it? And if they did, did they think the parents would be cool with the school forcing them to pull their pants down for a poop inspection?
Gustine Independent School District Superintendent Ken Baugh weighed in on the topic when confronted by the media, and said reasonably, "That's not appropriate, and we do not condone that. So you would take disciplinary action." He stated that he plans to investigate the situation and hopes to wrap up his findings soon, but the word on the street is that parents are planning to show up at an upcoming school board meeting.
I get that leaving poop on the floor at school is not healthy or good, but making all the kids expose their undies to school personnel is so weird and wrong I cannot even wrap my head around it.
