Similac Mother Hood Video
This clever video from the formula company Similac has gone viral, with well over 3 million YouTube views. It highlights the so-called "mommy wars" and how, deep down, we are all parents who only want the best for our babies.
The video broaches the touchy subjects that are often the basis of some of the worst internet fighting, such as breast vs. bottle, SAHM vs. working mom and cloth vs. disposable. In fact, the video kind of looks like an internet fight acted out, with moms threatening one another with dirty diapers and the worst insults about one another's choices being hurled back and forth.
The action is on the brink of getting physical when a mom who is so intent on fighting other moms she doesn't notice that her baby rolls away. All the parents rush to the baby's rescue, because of course, moms don't want other babies to be harmed — even if they don't agree with the parenting techniques of their mothers.
"The Mother 'Hood" reminds us that we're all basically good human beings. But we already knew this, right? Moms may fight online, but they also support each other time and again. There aren't a ton of moms I know who parent their babies the same way I do, but that doesn't mean that I don't support and lift up other moms.
Moms don't need a formula commercial to bring home the fact that we need to treat others kindly. At the same time, it's important to acknowledge that moms can state their opinions without completely ignoring their kids to the point of harm or death. Cute? Sure. Shareable? It's already proved that it is. But groundbreaking? I don't really think so.
