"It's not just for black and white people — it's also for all races."

"Let's have everyone be a unified nation."

"Today I can go to ballet class no matter what race I am."

In honor of MLK day, we asked the Hatch kids to engage in a conversation and some activities based on the humanitarian, activist and civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Watch as they break down what he said. Their understanding of what it means to their lives today is pretty inspirational.

In the workshop, the Hatchlings read the speech, highlighted favorite passages and learned about the time in history this all took place. They also took part in a discussion on the meaning of the speech and on whether or not we have achieved Dr. King's dream completely. Lastly, they created their own speech using a fill-in-the-blank exercise, as a thank-you to Dr. King.

You can encourage your own child to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement by downloading this PDF and participating with them in the activities.
