The Daytona Beach, Florida father arrived home at 1 a.m. on July 18, 2014 to discover 18-year-old Raymond Frolander sexually assaulting his son. His natural instinct, as I can imagine any parent's would be, was to attack. The 9-1-1 call paints a chilling picture for parents everywhere.

"I just walked in on a grown man molesting... ," he told a dispatcher. "And I got him in a bloody puddle for you, officer."

According to reports, Frolander lived next door to the family and has been abusing this boy since he was 8 years old. "The 18-year-old was almost like a family member," said Daytona Beach police chief Mike Chitwood.

As a mom, and a single mom at that, I completely agree with what this father did to protect his son. Frolander was left nearly unrecognizable, and later told police that he was guilty of the sexual assault.

In all honesty, I am impressed with the restraint this father used in detaining the alleged molester. I'm not sure that I could have done it. I think I would have grabbed for something to cause much more permanent damage.

Child molestation is a severe problem in our country. A new case of abuse is reported every 10 seconds, according to the Tennyson Center for Children (2012). And those are just the ones who report it. Shockingly, more than 90 percent of juvenile victims know their abuser. It is a crime that knows no cultural, ethnic or religious distinction. It is, in my opinion, nothing short of an epidemic, and it needs to be taken seriously.

With so many cases being reported every day, the question begs to be asked once more... what can we do to protect our children?

Frolander is lucky. If I had my shot at him, he would be missing some important parts. To quote the victim's father, "You are damn lucky, boy, that I love my God."

The father in this case has not been charged with any crime. Do you think he should be? How would you have reacted?
