Kim Kardashian thinks pregnant women should never leave the house

In a recent interview with Elle, Kardashian revealed what she really thought of pregnant women and maternity fashion, saying, "I recommend hiding for a good year and having no pregnancy style. That’s what I recommend. If you can do it, hide. Never leave the house. That's really my recommendation. Wear a huge blanket."

And while she may have been joking just slightly, I have to admit that I totally get where she's coming from.

Glamorous, glamorous

The thing is, we can't all be the adorable skinny-with-a-basketball-bump pregnant woman that the world imagines we should be. Glowing and glamorous, we are not. Sometimes, pregnancy looks like swollen feet and varicose veins and preeclampsia — and frankly, I think the fact that the woman who is arguably the world's most iconic fashion "diva" can admit that pregnancy can suck is kind of awesome.

I mean look at how well her sister Kourtney wears pregnancy — and after Kim's floral disaster, we can all agree that looking good through a flawless pregnancy isn't a genetic guarantee. Some women stay slim and trim throughout their pregnancies and others, like myself and Kimmy K., manage to blow up, swell up and apparently, get the urge to hole up. For the entire nine months.

Pregnancy in public

Obviously, I don't think there is anything unfit or unseemly about a pregnant woman rocking whatever look she wants during her pregnancy or being seen out in public. But I do think that it's also fine for women to simply be OK with having absolutely zero maternity fashion aspirations. At 34-weeks pregnant to the day with a condition called polyhydramnios (a fancy word for having so much amniotic fluid that I actually look 41-weeks along), the last thing I care about is looking good.

Actually, if I'm being honest, I look pretty ridiculous. My belly is out-of-this-world big and I can barely walk, Just today I waddled into the hospital for some prenatal testing and an elderly man stopped me to say, "Oh, honey, I hope you're ready to pop, because if not..." He shook his head.

I assured him that I was not, in fact, ready to pop and thanked him for making me feel so much better about myself than I already did.

Such is the reaction each and every time I go out in public — I am apparently a spectacle just asking for the public to deliver their oh-so-original commentary on:

  1. My size
  2. The number of babies I am carrying (one, for the record)
  3. My shockingly far-off due date.

So, no, I don't feel like rocking it out on any imaginary pregnancy runway right now.

Instead, I'm totally content to take Kardashian's advice and hide in my house where I'm comfortable, doing pregnancy my way.

Now where's that blanket she mentioned?
