Teach your preschooler that the love between mamas and babies is universal, even in the animal world. The repetitive nature of this book will have them reading right along with you in no time.
2. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
No book explains the gift of giving, and the importance of appreciating those gifts, better than The Giving Tree. This is must-read for all preschoolers, but make sure you have a box of tissues handy — you might need them, mama.
3. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is an adorable book about a boy granting a mouse's requests and the chain of events that follow. Need more? Read Numeroff's equally silly tale about everything that could happen if you took that mouse to school.
4. Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson
This book is totally magical — or at least your preschooler will think it is. Start with a plain brown tree, and take it through the seasons as they’re asked to touch, tap, shake and jiggle the book to make the story progress.
5. Tickle Monster by Josie Bissett
You’ve never had more fun reading a book than you will with this one. Play the part of the tickle monster and tickle your kiddo from head to toe as you read through the whimsical rhymes.
6. I Stink! By Kate and Jim McMullen
Live a night in the life of a garbage truck as this sassy, stinky, 10-wheel truck tells you exactly what happens on the city streets after you drift off to sleep.
7. 10 Little Rubber Ducks by Eric Carle
A box of rubber duckies falls off a boat in the middle of the ocean in this book. Don’t worry about them, though — their adventure is just beginning. You and your preschooler follow them each to their destinations, and Carle saves the best for last.
8. Llama Llama Misses Mama by by Anna Dewdney
The perfect read for a little one about to enter preschool, Llama Llama works himself into a tizzy when he realizes his mama is leaving him at school, but his worries are soon forgotten when he finds himself actually having fun.
9. I Love You, Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt
The unconditional love of a mother is tested, but never broken as you weave through the story of a mama who faces some unimaginable difficulties with her preschooler, but loves him anyway.
10. Clark the Shark by Bruce Hale
This is the perfect read for those days when your preschooler is just too much. Clark the Shark crashes into school with all the enthusiasm in the world, but it's a little much for his teacher. Thankfully, she teaches him to rein it in a bit. Maybe your little one will take a hint?
11. Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle
It’s not always the biggest and the baddest that wins the race. In this story, the little guy comes out on top with a little help from his friends, and you and your preschooler can cheer him on together.
12. Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
Go back in time with your preschooler when you take him the pages of one of your childhood favs. Let his imagination run wild as you explore his colorful poems and whimsical illustrations.

Charlie the Ranch Dog loves everything about his life in the country. Get to know him in this book, and love him even more as you devour the rest of the series.

Nudge your preschooler out of a bad mood with this fun book that puts a positive spin on grumpy days.
15. The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle
This is a tale about a chameleon who realizes he can change color and shape and the hilarious result that follows.
