Makeup disaster

Silence is not golden
"This is what happens when it gets too quiet and there are a 2- and 4-year-old involved. I guess it could have been worse than just a little fun with mommy's fire engine red lipstick, like the time they made an entire box of tampons disappear without a trace. Not a wrapper nor a string was found. Best I can tell, my en suite was the Bermuda Triangle of feminine hygiene products."
Deborah Cruz of The Truth About Motherhood
Good times
“Being a sneaky 2-year-old looks like good times.”

#birthdaypartyfail
“I was going through family videos and came across Little BooBoo’s 1st birthday party, a tiny family affair. Despite the intimacy of the occasion, I have this nasty tendency to get frazzled whenever I have guests in my home, and yes, this even applies to family. So there we were, getting all ready to sing Happy Birthday and Boy Wonder comes spinning into the room like a tornado, shouting and running into everything. After multiple failed requests for him to calm down, I snapped at him like Mommy Dearest… on video. I’ve had my lion’s share of shameful parental moments, but this one takes the cake (pun, anyone?).”

Never turn your back
"I was making dinner while my 3- and 2-year-olds were supposed to be watching some Disney Junior in the living room. Making dinner is usually a cardio workout for me as I have to run back and forth to check on the kids while I cook. All of a sudden I just had a feeling — I knew they were up to no good. I get to the living room and the 2-year-old is in the fireplace while the 3-year-old is playing with ashes on the floor. Sometimes (often) I feel like I can't take my eyes off them for even a second."

Nowhere to run to
“Ummm, are you kidding me? I said let's go out for a walk and this is what she chose to wear. The only good news was if someone came along who I knew, I could save myself by ducking under that big ass dress to hide.”
Karen Alpert of Baby Sideburns
Aim and shoot
My almost 3-year-old has a deep rooted fascination with his penis. He likes to touch it, move it around and especially use it to pee on random objects. While playing together in his older sister's room, I heard a scream as if someone was deathly injured. My daughter came running in from her room, screaming, "He's ruined it! He's ruined it!" as she started crying against my leg. I rolled my eyes, wondered what he had broken now, and walked with her back to her room. However, my mouth dropped open as soon as I saw what was happening. There, standing in the middle of the room, was my son, attempting to pee directly into the miniature potty of his sister's Barbie Dream House. And as many young boys, or even grown men do, he was missing. Missing and hitting Ariel and Belle directly in the face.
"I tried not to laugh, I really tried. However, the sight was just too much for this incredibly sarcastic mother to bear. And so, when I was done laughing and knew it was time to discipline my son, I turned to him and said, "Sweetie, why did you pee in Barbie's potty?" He looked at me, completely serious, and answered, "It was closer than the big potty. And look," he said, as he pushed on the button next to the toilet, "it even flushes. I remembered to flush this time."

This too shall pass
"My son was around 18 months old and just starting to communicate with simple words and signs. He was letting us know his stomach hurt but we had no clue why. After a warm bath we helped him along to sleep hoping it would resolve itself. The next morning his complaints began again and we only had to wait a little bit longer to know why. During his next diaper change we found a dime amidst everything else. It was oxidized, so had clearly gone through his little system. Somehow, the day before he had scarfed down a dime, unbeknownst to us. I felt awful — how could I have missed him eating a dime? Thankfully it passed through without any lasting damage. And yes, we still have that dime around somewhere to remind us that even our worst parenting moments can be looked back upon and laughed at."

Sticker disaster
"Ellie was about 2-1/2 in this photo. A friend had given us a giant bag of foam stickers, which we dumped into a bowl, and she usually used them very conscientiously, just quietly sticking them one by one to her paper. One day I was in the kitchen baking peanut butter cup brownies and came out to find this. She said she was looking for a 'pink three.' (The brownies were totally worth the epic mess, though.)"
