Last month, Graco recalled around 3.8 million car seats due to buckle issues. Now, they are adding on over 400,000 more seats. Is your child's car seat on the list of those recalled?
Fourth largest car seat recall in history
Graco's enormous recall in February 2014 included 3.8 million convertible car seats and harness booster seats (check out the models included in the original recall here). The company is adding 403,222 additional seats to their recall, bringing the total up to 4.2 million — it still stands as the fourth largest child seat recall in U.S. history.
Additional recalled Graco models
The additional car seat models included in the recall are as follows:
- Argos 70 Elite
- Ready Ride
- Step 2
- My Ride 65 with Safety Surround
- My Size 70
- Head Wise 70 with Safety Surround
- Nautilus 3-in-1
- Nautilus Plus
- Smart Seat with Safety Surround
What you need to do
You should continue using your car seat or harnessed booster. If your car seat or harnessed booster seat is included in the recall — and you have registered it through Graco — you should receive a replacement buckle with installation instructions automatically. If you haven't registered your safety seat, you can request a replacement buckle through their website. Graco representatives are also available toll free at 800-345-4109 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. or you can email them at consumerservices@gracobaby.com.
Future recall?
Next week, Graco will be answering the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about their decision to exclude their infant car seats, which feature the same buckle system as the convertible car seats and harnessed boosters. If they are eventually added to the recall, adding 1.8 million additional units, it will make this the largest car seat recall in history.
